SPICMACAY Gators is a chapter of the original SPICMACAY in Gainesville, Florida.
SPICMACAY affirms a multifaceted cultural and artistic heritage. SPICMACAY seeks to promote an awareness of this rich and heterogeneous cultural tapestry amongst youth everywhere through active participation in Indian classical music and arts, and discovery of their deeper and subtler values. The movement incorporates the vitality of young people to cajole them into being custodians of this heritage. It seeks to provoke thought and a genuine spirit of enquiry in the young. It emphasizes aesthetics and sensitivity in an increasingly mundane and unquestioning world. Thus its work is educational in spirit and character and locates itself in educational institutions only.
Since the foundation of SPICMACAY in 1977 in India; over 250 chapters have been established in various universities and colleges all over India, and today, there are more than 30 chapters of the Society in the USA and Canada. The SPICMACAY chapter at Gainesville, a student organization at the University of Florida was founded in Summer 2007 and is affiliated with ‘SPIC-MACAY, India’ .
